The carbon materials have importance from both academic and industrial points of view. Among them, the synthesis and application of carbon ball has attracted wide attention in recent year. The polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon balls have high thermal stability and high strength and modulus. In this study, well-defined carbon balls were obtained by pyrolysis of PAN-based particles. The precursor PAN-based particles were prepared by modified aqueous dispersion polymerization using hydrophilic poly(vinyl alcohol) in a water/ N,N-dimethylformamide mixture media. The characteristics of the carbon balls were investigated and discussedin terms of specific surface area, morphology, and size distribution. |
