Characterization of highly dispersed and visible light-induced TiO2 nanoparticles |

Highly dispersed visible light TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrolysis using an economic inorganic compound titanium tetrachloride. As-prepared powders were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, EM and UV/VIS DRS. Besides the zeta-potential and the particle size distribution were measured using the light scattering method, the effects of suspension concentration, dispersion method and time, and the kind of dispersants and their concentrations were investigated. Methylene blue (MB) is a representive of a class of dyes resistant to degradation. Visible light-induced photocatalytic degradation of MB has been investigated in TiO2 aqueous heterogeneous dispersions. A comparison of the photocatalytic activity of prepared TiO2 with that of commercial TiO2 is presented under similar conditions. |
