Polyimides for NLO applications have attracted attentions because of their high thermal stability. In the developments of nonlinear optical (NLO) polymers, stabilization of electrically-induced dipole alignment is one of important criteria. In this work we prepared novel polyimides containing 1-(3,4-dioxyethoxy)phenyl)-2-{5-(2,2,3-tricyanovinyl)-2-thiophenyl)}ethenyl groups as NLO-chromophores. We selected the latter because they have large dipole moment. Furthermore, 1-(3,4-dioxyethoxy)phenyl)-2-{5-(2,2,3-tricyanovinyl)-2-thiophenyl)}ethenyl groups constitute novel Y-type NLO polyimide, and this Y-type NLO polyimide has not yet been presented in the literature. This mid-type NLO polymer is expected to have both the merits of main-chain and side chain-NLO polymers namely stable dipole alignment and good solubility. After confirming the structure of the resulting polymer, we will investigated their linear and nonlinear optical properties. |
