Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)[PHEMA] is a commonly used biomaterial due to its hydrophilic, antifouling, and biocompatible properties. Because it is widely used in biological and biomedical applications including tissue substitutes and intraocular lenses, intensive research has been carried out to find the method to improve the properties of PHEMA compound. However, PHEMA is not suitable for the thin film application without cross-linking process because of its poor stability as thin-film state. Therefore, to widen the applicable window of PHEMA, we designed and synthesized PHEMA derivatives with various functional moieties by simple polymer analogous reaction. In this research, the new PHEMA derivatives will be demonstrated using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), contact angle analysis, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). |
