For a thermoelectric (TE) application, the surface of exfoliated black phosphorus (BP) was successfully functionalized with Au nanoparticles (NPs), leading to the significantly enhanced thermoelectric performance at the controlled Au NP content. A facile and selective decoration of metal species on defect sites of BP is allowed by the spontaneous formation of Au NPs on BP surface via a redox reaction. Such heterostructure provided by Au decoration on BP not only enhances the electrical conductivity by tuning the charge carrier concentration but also retains decent Seebeck coefficient. More significantly, in contrast to serious degradation of the pristine BP in air, the BP with surface functionalization exhibits excellent stability under exposure to air for a long period of time, which is beneficial for practical TE application. |
