Nucleobase functionalized polymers have been used in various fields because they have complementary multiple hydrogen bonding between nucleobases. In this study, adenine functionalized block copolymers, poly(9-(4-vinylbenzyl)adenine)-b-polystytene (PVBA-b-PS), were synthesized successfully using RAFT polymerization and characterized by GPC and NMR. Phase behavior of PVBA-b-PS with various volume fractions of PS block (fps) was investigated via SAXS and TEM. With increasing fPS from 0.1 to 0.9, body-centered-cubic spheres (BCC), hexagonally packed cylinders (HEX) and lamellae (LAM) were observed. Interestingly, PVBA-b-PS with fps of 0.77 showed asymmetric lamellar microdomains. In addition, thin film of PVBA-b-PS was fabricated as a template for arrangement of gold (Au) nanoparticles. The surface of Au nanoparticles was modified with the complementary thymine functionalized polymers. The Au nanoparticles can be immobilized on the thin film through a complementary hydrogen bonding pair. |
