Manganese oxide structure and surface modification effect on T1 relaxivity |
초록 |
Hollow manganese oxide nanocubes were produced and modified by either ligand exchange or ligand encapsulation, rendering them water soluble. Phthalic acid buffer induced the formation of hollow nanosphere morphologies.1 These as-synthesized nanocubes were further compared proving that increase in the nanoparticle surface percentage allows for more water accessibility leading to higher r1. Exchanging the ligand along with hollowing out the structure tremendously increases the surface-area-to-volume ratio leading to the increased accessibility of water protons to the exposed metal ions. MR imaging studies revealed that the hollow ligand exchange particles exhibit significantly enhanced longitudinal relaxation by allowing direct contact with water protons. The nanoparticles were subsequently functionalized with a targeting monoclonal antibody to selectively target cancer cells. Further in vivo MR studies revealed the particles to be effective T1 MR contrast agents. |
