In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were treated with copper by electroless plating method to improve electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance of MWCNTs. The physical properties of copper electroless plated MWCNTs were analyzed by using ultra-high resolution scanning electron microscope (UHR-SEM), thermogravimetry (TGA), sheet resistance analyzer and EMI shielding analyzer. The EMI shielding efficiencies of copper electroless plated MWCNTs were measured to be 15 dB from 800 MHz band, which was 1.5 times increased compared to those of the activated MWCNTs. Also, the average sheet resistance of copper electroless plated MWCNTs was measured to be 60 Ω/sq, which was 63% decreased compared to that of the activated MWCNTs. These results were attributed to uniformity of plating morphology on the surface, which had more effect on EMI shielding efficiency than the amount of copper plating. |
