Organic-inorganic hybrid coatings containing anti-corrosive sol-gel precursors were prepared to protect the surface of metal substrates against corrosion via sol-gel process. In particular, triethoxysilane end-capped sol-gel precursors having corrosion protection ability was prepared by incorporating the 2,5-di-amino-1,4-benzoquinone functional group, which is known an effective corrosion protection properties due to the high affinity of amine-quinone group to metals. The coating formulations were prepared by depending on the types and amounts of anti-corrosive sol-gel precursors and were coated on the metal substrates by bar-coating, and thermally cured. The coatings having anti-corrosive sol-gel precursors exhibited much improved corrosion protection ability by salt spray chamber test and the detailed results from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of each coating will be discussed. |
