In this study, we determined the wetting and the self-cleaning properties of well-controlled gradient surfaces ranging from superhydrophobicity to superhydrophilicity with a hysteresis transition region along a single specimen. The hierarchical structured organic-inorganic films were fabricated by the LBL process of polyelectrolytes and nanoparticles. After fluoroalkylsilane SAMs treatment, the samples were irradiated by UVO in a gradient manner and then artificially contaminated with various particles. Following contamination, the specimens were subjected to artificial rain and fog. Our results confirm that the contact angle hysteresis of the surfaces play an important role in determining the self-cleaning properties. |
