Due to being highly efficient and environmentally friendly, fuel cells are one of the most promising energy conversion devices for power the energy demands of the future. However, the cost of novel metals is one of the most important barriers to the commercialization of fuel cell technology. Therefore various reports have been published on the methods to improve the activity of electrode catalysts and increase the cell performance. To achieve both high activity and durability of the cell, we will discuss recently developed electrode materials especially focused on the performance of the single-cell. It should be pointed out that the main purpose of this work is to demonstrate high performance of actual fuel cell device like membrane-electrode-assembly of PEMFC, rather than to explain the electrochemical mechanism of catalysts materials in half-cell. Finally, our recently developed three-dimensional ordered electrode structure for fuel cells will be presented in this session. |
