Imogolite is a natural, single-walled alumino-silicate nanotube which is composed by (OH)3Al2O3SiOH, forming with about 2 nm diameter and 60-1000 nm length. The outer and inner surface of imogolite is composed to Al–OH group and Si–OH group, respectively. Nickel as a good material for improving gas adsorption capacity was used with the imogolite nanotube. The surface of imogolite was modified by using 3-phosphonopropionic acid having both phosphonic acid group and carboxylic acid group. This is because that the phosphonic acid group is combined with surface of imogolite and carboxylic acid group is interacted with nickel metal. Then nickel particles are distributed on the modified imogolite. The nickel/imogolite nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDS). . Consequently, the nickel/imogolite nanocomposite has higher gas (hydrogen) adsorption rate than that of imogolite itself. |
