Cfd modelling of kinetics of drying in a spouted bed apparatus
In the paper, the possibilities of application of computational fluid dynamics CFD technique to engineering calculations of drying kinetics in a spouted bed dryer are analyzed. The Eulerian-Eulerian multifluid modelling approach was applied to predict two-phase flow hydrodynamics. A model of coupled heat- and mass-transfer was combined with the commercially available code FLUENT by means of the UDF programming. The kinetics of drying was described by classical and diffusional models for periods I and II of drying, respectively. The results of the simulations were compared with experimental data and with values obtained from various correlations.
