Acid-catalyzed liquid-phase dehydration of dimethylphenylcarbinol
The kinetics of dehydration of dimethylphenylcarbinol by sulfuric acid in cumene solution was studied. A mathematical model of the dehydration process was proposed, which adequately describes the experimental results. The kinetic parameters of the process were determined. It was found that the catalyst activity declined in the course of the reaction, which was associated with its solvation by the water formed.
