A liquid leak location gradient-type method for pipelines
A static model was used to analyze pressure and volume flux variations in the simultaneous flow of two media through a pipeline as a function of the position of the medium separation boundary. A general algorithm was developed to use these variations to locate leaks. With more than one medium transported, the algorithm locates a leak more accurately than does the single-medium algorithm, provided pressure gradient ratios are known, several variables are currently determined, the number of solutions incorporated is equal to the number of media transported, and a solution variant has been correctly selected for the pipeline area where the leak has occurred. For more than 2-3 media to be transported simultaneously, the algorithm is too complicated to be convenient.
