The recovery of a Genosorb (R) polyethylene glycol methyl ether mixture from liquid wastes by the use of selective reverse osmosis (SeIRO) membranes
Genosorb, a (15:65:15:5 wt. %) mixt. of tri-, tetra-, pentaethylene glycol dimethyl ethers and triethylene methyl ether, is used in a Linde's "Solinox" plant to absorb H2SO4 vapors, which produces annually 20,000 m(3) aq. wastes contg. av. 40 tons Genosorb, 24 tons SO42-, and minor amts. of Na+, Cl and F. A 2,000-1,200 GenoSorb-SO42- g/m(3) model soln. was passed, 1.5 m(3)/h at 3 MPa, through a 2540-A2-X spiral-wound module contg. an MPS-34 (Abcor) SeIRO membrane to yield a 19,280-2,235 retentate and an 80-1,085 g/m(3) permeate. The retentate Genosorb, recovery 96.4016, must be analyzed and replenished before reuse. With 30 m(3) crude feed, the loss of retentate was estd. at 0.1%.
