The ways to pure hydrogen at the nitrogen works Kedzierzyn SA
Natural gas, similar to 40,000 m(3) (S.T.P)/hr. is converted into syngas contg. H-2 66.9%, CO 18.8%, CO2 12.0%, CH4 0.6%, N-2 1.7 mol %, which is used to make 1150 ton NH3/24 hrs. This is achieved in catalytic partial oxidation reactor working at 3.6 MPa with pure O-2 and steam as reagents to CH, and contg. about 30 ton of Ni-on-Al2O3 catalyst. The flameless catalytic partial oxidation with CO2 added yields a (1:1) H-2:CO syngas, suitable for ox syntheses. Pressure swing adsorption on zeolites and membrane techniques repurify the partial oxidn. H-2 to become 99-100% and 99.3-99.4% resp.
