Improving of the biological removal and recovering of phosphorus from sewage by filamentous microorganisms
Foams from a sewage treatment plant were analyzed for phosphates, total P, Mg and K. The presence of filamentous microorganisms (Microthrix parvicella, Nocardia amarae, Nocardia J-27, Nocardia pinensis-like bacteria, Rhodococcus chubuensis) was obsd. by microscopy. Addnl., the biomass-contained polyphosphate compn. was detd. by energy-dispersive anal. with the X-ray attachment The filamentous microorganisms showed an ability to assimilation and accumulation of polyphosphates and could be used for removal (down to below 1.0 mg/L) and recovering of the sewage-contained P as struvite deposit.
