The effect of TiO2-SiO2 oxide composite on the barrier properties of textile fabrics
TiO2-SiO2 composites were pptd. in emulsion systems consisting of TiOSO4 or Na2SiO3 and cyclohexane, C2H19PhO(CH2CH2O)(n)H (n = 3 or 6) emulsifiers and H2O under stirring, calcinated at 1000 degrees C for 1 h and studied for the particle size distribution (polydispersity index), surface morphology, sedimentation profiles, N-2 adsorption/desorption properties and UV protection ability. The nanosized ppts. were used for coating polyester fabrics and nonwovens. An increase in UV protection of the fabrics from 25 up to more than 50 was achieved.
