Physicochemical properties of mixtures of alcohols with bioesters and their impact on emissions of toxic components of exhaust from diesel engine
Corn. Me ester of rapeseed oil fatty acids and its mixt. with BuOH, EtOH or i-PrOH (10% of each) were used as fuel for an agricultural diesel engine with direct injection in a std. 11-step test to study the content of CO, hydrocarbons, NOx and particulate matter in the off-gas. The addn. of EtOH to the gas oil resulted in the highest decrease in the NOx and particulate matter contents, while the hydrocarbon and CO contents were lowest in an case of alc.-free oil.
