The condensation of benzaldehydes with acetoacetic esters and ammonia was carried out in aqueous solutions of aliphatic hydrotropes. Substantial enhancement in the rates of the reactions along with easy recovery of the product were noted. The recyclabilty of the hydrotropes has also been tested.
