Structure and properties of composite Ni-P/SiC surface layers produced by chemical reduction on aluminum and its alloys
Al and its alloys were covered with thin Ni-P and Ni-P/SiC layers by chem. redn. of NiSO4 and NaH2PO2 (optionally in presence of suspended SiC particles) with MeCH(OH) COOH at 80-90 degrees C and pH 4.3-4.6. The surface layers were studied for microstructure, adhesion, surface morphol. and topography, microhardness as well as for friction wear and corrosion resistance. The Ni-P layers showed an amorphous structure and contained 6% P. Both Ni-P and Ni-P/SiC layers exhibited high hardness and friction wear as well as corrosion resistance.
