Study on the pressure hydrochlorination of glycerol to dichloropropanols in the presence of acetic acid and its derivatives
Glycerol was hydrochlorinated to dichloropropanols (I) with gaseous HCl under pressure up to 1.0 MPa in the presence of AcOH (4.8%) or org. acetates as catalysts. The formation of (mainly (CH2Cl)(2)CHOH) proceeded with a high efficiency at 150 degrees C, 0.8 MPa for 60 min. The post-reaction mixt contained more than 60% I. Recycling and re-using the acetates-contg. residues after recovery of I, with addn. at least 20% of AcOH did not influence significantly the process.
