Sand production can reduce well production rates through plugging, damage equipment by abrasion, and increase well downtime and investment to regain production. In the worst case, reserves are abandoned because of the expense to re-establish wellbore integrity. Experience in the Baram Delta held, Sarawak, Malaysia, showed that furan-resin treatments can be used in certain formations to improve reserves recovery and economics.
