Performance of Laboratory-Scale Stirred-Pulsed Extraction Columns with Different Diameters
Based on a stirred-pulsed column with 15mm inner diameter, which was shown to provide a high number of theoretical stages per meter in a previous study, a 32-mm column of the same type was designed and characterized using the test system water/acetone/n-butyl acetate. The 32-mm column shows a lower extraction performance than the 15-mm column, however, the performance is still nearly twice as high as in conventional extraction columns. Furthermore, the maximum throughput is significantly higher in the 32-mm column compared to the DN15 column and in the same range as for conventional stirred columns.
