Tomographic Visualization of Single Droplets Inside Liquid-Liquid Extraction Columns
X-ray computed tomography allows for non-invasive measurements of hydrodynamic parameters in process equipment. A suitable test system was selected in order to visualize disperse droplet-flows inside packed liquid-liquid extraction columns. Automated image analysis enables the quantification of drop sizes, shapes, and drop locations inside the structured metal packing. Multiple tomographic scans on different height levels reveal the influence of packing geometry on the droplet distribution along the packing axis.
