Structural Study of a Niobium-Lanthanum Sulfide Compound ((Nb1-Xlaxs)Nbs2, X-Approximate-to-0.3 - The 1st Self-Misfit Compound)
A new structure type represented by the compound (Nb1-xLa(x)S)NbS2 (x almost-equal-to 0.3) was obtained. The structure resembles the so-called misfit-layer compounds since there is an alternated stacking of NbS2 and "NbS" layers along the c axis. However, the present compound shows no incommensurability of the a parameters of the NbS2 and the "NbS" subsystems, respectively. This is due to a partial replacement of La by Nb and to the rotation of the "NbS" subsystem in the (a,b)-plane by 45-degrees if compared to that of the misfit-layer compound "LaNbS3".
