Performance of Laser-Consolidated Plasma-Spray Coatings on Fe-28Mn-7Al-1C Alloy
The morphology and corrosion behaviour of the plasma-sprayed and laser-consolidated Cr, Mo and Cr-Mo coatings on the Fe-28Mn-7Al-1C alloy were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and potentiodynamic measurements. SEM observations revealed that a multilayer of Cr and Mo was formed on the Cr-Mo plasma-spray coating. The chemical inhomogeneity in this coating was removed by the laser treatment. Potentiodynamic measurements showed that the laser-modified Mo plasma-spray coating passivates with difficulty in sulphuric acid solution. However, the addition of Cr to the Mo plasma-spray coating increases the ability of the laser-glazed surface alloy to passivate in sulphuric acid solution.
