Factors affecting mechanical water shutoff
As most of the oil fields operated by Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co. (Gupco) mature, water production increases, presenting: severe problems from both technical and cost bases. Overloading the surface facilities, increased gas-lift requirements, corrosion, and production-string damage are some of the problems. Handling produced water is even more crucial with ecological and environmental interests and requirements. This study investigated an 8-year history of rigless water shutoff (WSO) jobs in various reservoirs operated by Gupco. Analysis of the available data helped establish an optimized plan for setting mechanical bridge plugs (MBP's).
