Erskine field HP/HT workover and tubing failure investigation
The first workover of a U.K. North Sea high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) production well was completed successfully in August 1999. The workover in Erskine field was the result of failure of the duplex stainless-steel (DSS) production tubing in the through-water zone. Tubing failure was attributed to external chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in the annulus vapor space above a calcium chloride (CaCl2) packer fluid. Although some details of the failure mechanism remain uncertain, the full-length paper presents available information to assist future HP/HT-well designers.
