THE REFUSE COMBINED HEAT AND POWER-STATION PIRMASENS
The study carried out in the 1980 of ''Refuse Removal through Incineration - An Investigation of a New Arrangement for Refuse Removal in the South and South-West of the Pfalz'', a location for the Refuse Combined Heat and Power Station (MHKW) was determined at the North-Western periphery of the City of Pirmasens after comprehensive investigations also with respect to a possibly complete utilization of the occurring energies electricity and district heat. In the National Regulation Act, of the Refuse Removal Plan passed in August 1986 - Part of the Plan ''Household Refuse and Garbage Similar to Household Refuse'' -, this location with its catchment area was legally determined. In July 1987, the Functional Association Refuse Utilization South-West Pfalz (ZAS) was established by the County Council of Rheinhessen-Pfalz to which belong the administrative districts in their own right landau, Pirmasens and Zweibruecken as well as the (Southern Wine Road) with altogether about 400000 residents. The task of ZAS is to treat and utilize in an environmentally acceptable way the occurring quantities of tailings as well as sewage sludges in the Refuse Combined Heat and Power Station Pirmasens.
