Combined heat and power: A comparison of technical, ecological and economic characteristic numbers of innovative turbines and engines
In past years, turbine engineering as well as the corresponding engine engineering employed for the generation of electricity developed considerably. Basically, it is possible in both cases to improve the total electrical efficiency distinctly through topping turbines. The specific investments for turbines and engines have decreased in recent years. Therefore, more and more cases of application become economically interesting, too, in which these engineering methods may be used within the framework of combined heat and power processes. A detailed analysis of the specific framework conditions is necessary in each case, in order to make the decision for the use of the appropriate engineering method.
