Surface Properties of Water-repellency Coating Films and Their Durability Effects
The glass coating solution with water-repellency was prepared by the sol-gel reaction of perfluoroalkylsilane(PFAS) and tetraethoxysilane(TEOS). The glass substrates reacted to PFAS and TEOS groups of the glass coating solution for the formation of perfluoroalkyl siloxane groups, and those groups were coated on the glass surface. It was found that the water-repellent glass prepared is very hydrophobic and exhibits excellent water-repellency. Hydrophobic perfluoroalkyl siloxane groups are preferentially enriched to the outermost layer at the coating film-air interface. However, the coated perfluoroalkyl siloxane groups in high humidity are easily separated from the glass substrate, and the durability of coating films is considerably decreased. In this study, the perfluoroalkyl silicone copolymers with high hydrophobicity were used to improve the durability of glass coating film.
