Electro-adsorption and desorption of Uranium Ions in Liquid Waste
Uranium-containing aqueous wastes have been treated by electrosorption on a carbon electrode composed of activated carbon fibers(ACFs) in a continuous flow-through cell. Effective uranium (VI) removal is accomplished when a negative potential in the range of -0.3 to -0.9 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) is applied to the carbon electrode. For a feed concentration of 100mg/L, the concentration of U(VI) in the cell effluent is reduced to less than 1 mg/L. Electrosorption capacity over 505 mguranium/GACF is reached. The adsorbed uranium can be desorbed from the ACFelectrode by reversing the potential at +1.2V and passing a 1.0N NaCl solution through the column.
