Stabilization/Solidification of Radioactive Metal Chlorides Wastes by Gelation Part1: Composition and aging Condition for the Gelation in Binary and Ternary System
We suggested the GEL-ROUTE Stabilization/Solidification to treat the radioactive metal chloride wastes that have high solubility in water and high volatility at relatively low temperature. Using sodium silicate, phosphoric acid and boric acid as starting materials in non-alcoholic solvent (H2O), we investigated the compositions for the gelation in binary or ternary system and the effect of aging condition. Gel with elasticity (not high viscosity) could be formed in one day at 70 ℃. This gel can be used as a host matrix incorporation metal chloride, without generating any secondary radioactive wastes.
