Effect of Camphorquinone Photo-initiator on the Dental Properties of Polymeric Dental Restorative Composites
E-mail:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of camphorquinone (CQ) photo-initiator on the dental properties of visible light-activated polymeric dental restorative composites. The contents of CQ were varied as 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 wt% based on bisphenol-A glycerolate dimethacrylate/triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (80/20 wt%/wt%) resin matrix. Silanized barium silicate (75 wt% of composite) and ethyl-4-dimethylaminobenzoate (1.0 wt% of resin matrix) were used as a filler and reducing agent for CQ, respectively. Effect of the CQ content on the polymerization behavior was observed by measuring the depth of cure and the degree of conversion using a Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy. In addition, color variation of the composite materials was investigated by measuring the Hunter L, a, b values using a chromometer. Finally, mechanical properties including diametral tensile strength, flexural strength, and flexural modulus of the light-cured polymeric dental restoratives were also investigated.
