Preparation of Pt/Carbon Catalyst by Colloidal Method and Performance Evaluation
E-mail:
Pt/Carbon catalyst was prepared by the colloidal method using carbon black (CB), coal, and wood-based activated carbon (AC-coal and AC-wood) as the catalyst support. The BET surface area, thermal stability, and loading yield and ratio were investigated to characterize the prepared catalysts. The thermal stability of AC-wood and AC-coal was superior to that of CB. The loading yield and ratio increased in the order of AC-wood > AC-coal > CB. The platinum particle size loaded was 60~80 Å for CB and AC-coal, and 20~40 Å for AC-wood. Benzene, toluene, and m-xylene (BTX) were oxidized using the prepared Pt/Carbon catalyst to evaluate its catalytic performance, and the catalytic activity continued for more than 12 h. The deep conversion of BTX using Pt/AC-wood was higher than that of Pt/AC-coal, while Pt/CB was the lowest. Accordingly, in the current study, 0.8~1.5 wt% of Pt/AC-wood was founded to be suitable for VOC oxidation.
