Dental Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites Useful for Dental Restoratives
Polymer nanocomposites (NCs) composed of nanofiller and acrylic resin matrix was designed to be useful for dental restoratives. Barium silicate (avg. dia.: 1 μm) hybridized with a fumed silica (avg. dia.: 3 μm) was adopted as a filler system and its surface was hydrophobically treated with silane coupling agent to improve the interfacial behavior with the resin matrix of bisphenol A glycerolate methacrylate/triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (60/40 wt%). A visible light system of camphor-quinone/2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacylate was utilized to activate the resin matrix in the NCs. Dental properties of polymer NCs prepared herein was investigated by measuring the degree of conversion, depth of cure, and mechanical strength.
