Direct Catalytic Pyrolysis of Biomass using Solid Acid Catalysts

Cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, three main components of biomass, were pyrolyzed over catalysts such as silicaalumina, HZSM-5, HY, Mordenite, Beta and MCM-41, and the kinetic experiments for the catalytic pyrolysis reactions were conducted. The results indicated that by using the solid acid catalysts more stable oil was produced by transforming oxygen, which was the main cause for the instability of bio-oil, into H2O, CO and CO2, even though there was not significant difference in degradation temperature in the presence of catalysts.
