Subsea separation: The way into the new millennium
Many new areas of development are deepwater oil and gas fields or previously unprofitable marginal fields. Therefore, a new production technology is required. In 1995, ABB initiated the Subsea Separation and Injection System (Subsis) project. Approximately 1 1/2 years later, Norsk Hydro identified the need for subsea separation at the Troll field in the Norwegian North Sea. Norsk Hydro's Troll Pilot subsea-separation and water-injection station is now installed on the seabed. Seabed processing enables transporting produced oil to remote receiving facilities over long distances or directly to shore.
