Experimental Error Assessment for Image Correlation Analysis on a Paper Tensile Specimen

The correlation error in experimental mechanics area indicates how well two subsets, one from an undeformed image, the other from a deformed image, match. In this study, we used a correlation function in which the correlation error value was unity minus the normalized cross-correlation. The correlation error distributions around the hole in a paper tensile specimen at three different load levels were obtained experimentally. The results of the correlation error appeared to show the unique characteristics of deformation around the central hole, a strain raiser in uniaxially loaded tension paper specimen, and ensured the accuracy of the strain measuring technique.
