Ferroelectric liquid crystals are of interest for applications in second order nonlinear optical experiments as they combine a thermodynamically stable polar structure with mobility. Low-molecular weight- (see Figure) and siloxane-fixed FLCs are reported which contain a donor-acceptor pi system in a heterocylic ring which does not disturb the desired rod-like shape of the molecules.
