OPTICAL-PROPERTIES OF PR-3-CIRCLE-PLUS IONS IN FLUORIDE GLASSES
Research News: Materials for near-infrared optical fiber amplifiers are currently receiving considerable attention, and the spectroscopic properties of rare-earth ions in heavy metal fluoride glasses make them prime candidates for amplifiers in the second transmission window of silica fibers (at 1300 nm). The back-ground to this technology is presented and requirements for future improvements discussed.
