Transparent slanted phase gratings in emissive waveguides
A new front-illumination principle is demonstrated for use in energy efficient and bright reflective liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The new emissive waveguide principle presented is based oil Bragg diffraction of waveguided light at a tuned holographic grating. The frontlight exhibits negligible image deterioration due to an excellent transparency and a high preference for (linearly polarized) light emission towards the display.
