High-temperature stability of size-selected gold nanoclusters pinned on graphite
Pinned Au-70 clusters (see Figure) are stable against lateral diffusion to step edges at temperatures several hundred degrees above room temperature. ne stability increases with increasing kinetic energy of the incident cluster, consistent with shallow implantation of the clusters. These results demonstrate the potential applications of pinned-cluster films in high-temperature physical, chemical, and biological applications.
