Heat losses from below ground basements from four different methods given in the literature were compared. Discrepancies of up to a factor of six were noticed. Conduction shape factors for different configurations of a given basement were obtained experimentally from simulations using a field plotting technique. The conduction shape factors were compared with those obtained from the different methods, and conclusions were given about the: suitability of these methods to estimate the ground heat loss.
