PARTIAL OXIDATION OF METHANE TO METHANOL - A KINETIC-STUDY
The partial oxidation of methane to methanol in a single step over a brass gauge catalyst was studied in a silica batch reactor using carbon-dioxide as the oxidant. The reactions were carried out at atmospheric pressure within a temperature range of 590-degrees-C - 630-degrees-C by varying residence times between 0.04 minutes to 0.566 minutes. The range of conversion of methane varied between 0.29%, while the selectivities for methanol remained between 18-40%. The other products of conversion were CO and H-2. The present communication deals with the kinetic analysis of methane conversion to methanol.
