Development of modern engine oils by the application of succinimide type additives
The presentation is concerned with an overview of the history and development of the application of Hungarian succinimide type detergent-dispersant additives. The relationship between the formulation of engine oils in the last twenty years and the efficiency of the ashless succinimide type additives is discussed. Results of the laboratory and motor tests of engine oils are compared. Based on the results of the structure optimisation of the polyisobutenyl-succinimide type additives significant results have been achieved in the improvements of the effectiveness of the performance packages (SE, SF, SG, CC, CD, HPDO) of different levels. It has been found that by using various types of succinimide additives a cost effective production of environmentally sounder and from the point of view of human biology more advantageous engine oils of different performance levels with low ash and phosphorus content and only some ppms of halogen can be achieved.
