FLOCCULATION PROPERTIES OF ACRYLAMIDE-BASED CATIONIC COPOLYMER IN EFFECTIVE WATER CLARIFICATION
The copolymers of acrylamide and diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride of various cationicities have been tested as flocculants for Fuller's earth suspensions. The relative effectiveness of these copolymers over conventional alum based coagulants, polyacrylamide, copolymer of acrylamide and sodium acrylate and poly (aluminium chloride) has been investigated. The effect of Fuller's earth suspension concentration on flocculation has also been studied. Thus by varying the acrylamide to diallyldimethyl ammonium chloride molar ratio in copolymer and controlling the charge density one is able to tailor-make a copolymer as per the need of the specific system to be treated.
