Electrochemical behaviour of inorganic redox systems during fluoride intercalation on graphite in aqueous-methanolic HF solutions
The electrochemical behaviour of well-polished graphite electrode has been compared with that of an electrode which was roughened by fluoride intercalation/deintercalation process. 15 M HF aqueous-methanolic medium was employed for the study of intercalation/deintercalation as well as some redox processes containing potassium salt of ferricyanide/ferrocyanide, bromide/bromine and iodide/iodine. In all the three cases, the redox species were found to adhere to the electrochemically roughened electrode surface. SEM studies indicate the formation of small salt crystallites on the surface. The possible impact of such films on other electron transfer processes is discussed.
